Which commercial cleaning robot should you choose? The one that matches your site. This comparison ranks 12 benchmark models by use case, offices, shops, large retail stores, warehouses and carpet, on the same criteria, then sets out the grid for making the decision. It draws on our database of 106 commercial cleaning robots, all brands included. "Which is the best commercial cleaning robot?" is the wrong question if you expect a model name in reply. It becomes a good question as soon as you describe the site. The same robot can be ideal in a hotel lobby and unsuitable in a warehouse. What follows is therefore a ranking by use case, on criteria that are identical for every model: cleaning width, rated productivity, runtime and docking station.

Offices, shops and hotels: compact multifunction robots

Office buildings combine three constraints: narrow passages, mixed floors (stone or tiles in the lobby, carpet on the office floors) and people on site during the day. The format that answers all three is the compact multifunction robot, 30 to 50 cm wide, which sweeps, vacuums, scrubs and dries in a single machine. The PUDU CC1 is our benchmark in this category: 700 to 1,000 m²/h, hard floors and carpet, a charging and water station, and lift calling for multi-storey sites. The CC1 Pro adds advanced perception for cluttered environments. Below 800 m², the PUDU ET1, a hot water scrubber-dryer with an 8-in-1 station, takes over from the mop in a shop or a branch office.

Among the other brands, the Gausium Phantas competes in the same category with a 33 cm cleaning width and a station included; the Keenon KLEENBOT C40 is a compact machine without a station, best kept for sites where an operative is on hand to refill it.

Large stores and shopping centres: scrubber-dryers

A sales floor calls for width, to cover the aisles before opening, a docking station, so the machine can run at night without an operative, and edge cleaning along the shelving. Warehouses and manufacturing: large scrubber-dryers and sweepers

The aisles of a warehouse or a factory call for two machines, not one: an autonomous sweeper for debris and dry dust, and a large scrubber-dryer for forklift marks and ingrained soil. On the scrubbing side, the Tennant T7AMR is the benchmark autonomous ride-on: an operative drives it through the complex areas, and it runs on its own along the aisles. The Kärcher KIRA BR 200 and the Avidbots Neo 2 are the large scrubber-dryers for sites of several tens of thousands of square metres. Carpet and offices: autonomous vacuums

A scrubber-dryer does nothing for carpet. For open-plan office floors, hotel corridors and meeting rooms, the right family is the autonomous vacuum: the PUDU MT1 Vac vacuums both carpet and hard floors and passes under racking and sofas; the LionsBot R3 Vac and the Tailos Rosie 2.0 are the compact machines used in hotels.

The selection grid, in 5 criteria

1. Area and hourly output. How many square metres, in how much time? A compact machine covers 700 to 1,000 m²/h; a large scrubber-dryer covers several thousand. Real output depends on how much the robot has to go around obstacles and turn back, which a demonstration measures far better than a data sheet.

2. Floor type. Hard floors (tiles, concrete, resin, vinyl, stone): an autonomous floor scrubber washes and dries in a single pass. Carpet: an autonomous vacuum. A mixed site: a multifunction robot or a combination of machines. Industrial floors add requirements for robustness and brush pressure.

3. The layout of the building. Passage widths, doors, lifts, clutter and no-go zones. A robot under 60 cm wide gets through narrow circulation routes; some can call the lift; a large scrubber-dryer needs clear aisles.

4. Cleaning windows. Is the site closed at night, cleaned early in the morning, or worked continuously while it is in use? The answer drives the runtime you need and the value of a docking station that charges, fills and drains on its own, which is what lets the machine run unattended.

5. The level of service you expect. Do you want to manage a machine, or to be handed a cleaning result? Buying a robot means managing maintenance, consumables, updates and breakdowns. A full-service contract covers robots, teams, maintenance and a continuity guarantee for a single monthly cost.

The method: try the machine rather than compare data sheets

Comparing data sheets gives an illusion of precision. Two sites of the same area can call for different answers depending on their floors and how cluttered they are. That is why the choice is made after a free demonstration on site: measurements, a survey of the floors and the constraints, then a costed recommendation. It is the only way to size the fleet correctly.

That is why costs are compared as a complete monthly cost, service included, rather than as a list price.
